Located in Northern California, the Joby Aviation team has been steadily working toward our goal of providing safe, affordable, fully electric air transportation that is accessible to everyone. Imagine an air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly and quickly carries you over the congestion below, giving you back that time you’d otherwise spend sitting in traffic. Technology has advanced to the point where designing and operating an all-electric aircraft is completely viable. Our team has been discreetly designing and flight testing this vehicle and is looking for talented individuals to see it through certification and high rate production.


The compensation analyst will be someone who absolutely loves spreadsheets, has immaculate attention to detail, and prefers challenge over consistency. The compensation analyst will interface with the entire company: the HR operations lead, payroll administrator, head of finance and HR, financial analysts, managers, and executives. Therefore, a high level of professionalism and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely is a requirement for this role.


Core duties include:

  • Assisting in defining the company’s compensation strategy annually
  • Compiling compensation reports for managers on a bi-monthly basis 
  • Being the point person for our equity management system
  • Developing reports and presentation materials on company-wide compensation data
  • Processing compensation changes with thoroughness and incredible attention to detail
  • Working closely with payroll to maintain accurate records in ADP
  • Answering employee questions on compensation

In addition to overseeing the compensation process at Joby, this position will provide support to the payroll administrator by:

  • Calculating retro pay in ADP for retroactive compensation changes
  • Importing payroll batches into ADP
  • Completing verifications of employment
  • Assisting in leave of absence pay calculations
  • Running payroll reports for internal and external audits
  • Helping in any other area that is critical to paying the team accurately and on time


  • 2+ years of experience in compensation planning, analysis, and/or administration
  • 1+ year in stock option plan administration
  • Excel proficiency: you can create a pivot table in your sleep
  • An eye for slide design: you can make a high-level presentation with effective data visualizations that will be presented to key stakeholders, such as our Board of Directors
  • You make few mistakes and know how to proofread your own work

  • ADP experience
  • 2+ years of startup experience
  • Fundamental understanding of accounting and finance
  • Benefits administration experience
  • Compliance knowledge related to employee compensation
