The Aircraft Build Manager will function as a single point of contact for all the Joby Manufacturing and product teams to coordinate the details related to the build and final assembly of a specific tail serial number of a Joby aircraft. This role will verify that aircraft completion happens in an organized, frequently updated, and planned process. This role will work with the program managers and department leads across the company to judge calendar realities and work with the various teams on recovery solutions when late sub-assembly and parts deliverables put the aircraft build schedule at risk.
As we scale production multiple aircraft will be in-work at the same time and vehicle assembly takt times will start to overlap. It is expected that each subsequent serial number will have its own dedicated build manager. As more build managers get hired, it is expected that there will be a dedicated build manager for each aircraft that is in-work, and as a team of Aircraft Build Mangers is hired, the most effective member of the team will be promoted to the Senior Build Manager role, and that role will not only supervise and manage an Aircraft build, but will also mentor, train, and lead the others build managers on this new team.
It is expected that applicants for this role will not only be technically competent in Aircraft systems and assembly processes but will also need to have an outgoing and engaging personality. They will need to communicate to the company at large easily, clearly, and frequently on the build status and blocking items. It is required that they are able to build strong relationships by interfacing and coordinating with the following teams:
- Composites Manufacturing
- Airframe Assembly
- Subtractive Metallics team
- Additive Team
- Small Electronics Team
- Actuators Team
- EPU Team
- Quarry Testing Team
- Flight Test Team
- ESI Team
- Production planning team
- Inventory Team
- Quality Team
- Executive Team
- Integration Team
- Aircraft Maintenance Team
- Design Engineering/Systems Engineering
- IPT Project Mangers
This position must be able to manage with a focus on increasing productivity, while maintaining flexibility and adaptability to meet business objectives in an extremely dynamic environment.
To be successful in the role we need candidates who are familiar with the following processes and tasks:
- Composites part fabrication
- Bonded Composite Assembly
