Overview

Joby Aviation is seeking an experienced Shop Production Manager to join our subtractive team in Dayton, Ohio. This individual’s role will include managing a team operating 5-axis mills, and multitasking lathes to create complex aircraft components from raw stock to finished parts as well as the associated support teams along the manufacturing chain. A willing attitude is very important for this position and goes a long way when thinking through a variety of solutions to complete jobs on time due to the fast pace of parts flowing through the shop. This position is hands-on experience, we aim to attract, retain, develop and motivate talent that possess the skills and leadership necessary to grow our team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to the machine shop team as well as overseeing daily operations of the entire production process chain
  • Establish and manage team who operates 5 axis mills, and multitasking lathes to create complex aircraft components from from raw stock to finished part
  • Manage team of engineers and programmers to provide solutions, feedback or alternative approaches to solve technical manufacturing problems with design and manufacturability of tools and components
  • Build up and maintain the production related Quality Management System 
  • Prepare the required schedule and cost estimates
  • Determine the best setup, machining strategy, order of operations, tool selection, speed/feed parameters for each project based on engineering drawings and corporate standards
  • Select, procure, and organize appropriate tooling and fixturing for projects based on part material, geometry, features, tolerances, and system capability

Required

  • Associate's degree, technical/trade school training or equivalent years of experience
  • 5+ years experience in Medical or Aerospace CNC machining production environment
  • 10+ years experience in Fabrication or Manufacturing 
  • 5+ years leading a team in a machine shop or manufacturing environment, including training staff
  • Expert knowledge in at least one of the following machine control systems: Heidenhain TNC 640, Mitsubishi M730, Fanuc 31i 
  • Knowledge in at least one modern CAM environment, Openmind Hypermill preferred
  • Advanced knowledge in QC inspection processes and Quality Management in a regulated work environment
  • Ability to perform complex set-up and fabrication of machined parts with no direction 
  • Experience in developing and maintaining a Quality Management System
  • Ability to read, interpret and explain complex or unusual engineering drawings, sketches and verbal and written instructions with a strong focus on GD&T
  • Advanced computer skills and familiarity with ERP and shopfloor IT systems.
  • Skills to maintain the flow of work within the unit using independent judgment in solving complex or unusual problems
  • Strong interpersonal skills and written communication skills to interface with employees, management and customers/outside representatives
  • Demonstrate continuous improvement of a well-organized and safe environment for all workspaces.
  • Ability to work overtime as business conditions dictate
  • Able to lift up to 35 lbs
  • Ability to make multiple domestic and/or international trips during the first 6 months of employment

 

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $85,200 - $146,900 annually. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
