Overview

Joby's Flight Research group is looking for a talented, driven and motivated individual to lead the software development in innovative aircraft configurations and automation solutions. This individual should be capable of contributing in multiple areas, having depth and breadth of skills to support the software stack, team and work environment. As a small, agile, and cohesive team, we value candidates who exhibit initiative, adaptability, and the capacity to handle a broad range of tasks to sustain the program's momentum.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development and execution of software solutions for Flight Research real-time vehicle and simulation applications
  • Oversee and mentor a small team of talented, multi-disciplinary software engineers (embedded, controls, simulation, etc)
  • Drive critical software trade studies, decisions and tool choice
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Flight Test, Aero, Hardware, Program, etc) on vehicle bring-up, intersectional decisions, trade studies and milestones
  • Contribute to the software architecture and code-stack, support the team in developing and delivering software solutions

Required

  • Experience balancing leadership, management and individual contribution in a fast-paced work environment
  • Strong background in real-time, safety-critical and simulation software development
  • Competency in controls, navigation, guidance and autonomy algorithms
  • Familiarity with embedded software design and Linux platforms
  • Expert abilities in C, C++, Python, and Git.

Desired

  • Proven track record of leading agile software teams in robotics, ground vehicles or aerospace applications in a research environment.
  • Experience in computer graphics and simulation visualization.
  • Familiarity with the Bazel Build system.

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $140,100 - $186,800/yr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
