Join our dynamic team as a Senior Aerodynamics Simulation Engineer, where your expertise will play a pivotal role in advancing the development and certification of a cutting-edge aircraft configuration. Our close-knit and agile modeling and simulation team within the Flight Physics group is seeking an experienced professional to collaborate closely with simulation, software, and controls engineers. As the focal point for aero modeling tools and data-driven workflows, you will contribute to improving our flight dynamics modeling and simulation capabilities. With a hands-on approach, flexibility, and a proactive mindset, you will be instrumental in driving the program forward, taking on diverse tasks as needed to ensure success. Responsibilities

  • Develop right-accuracy surrogate models used for real-time simulation, performance predictions, and various analysis
  • Collaborate with simulation, loads, and controls engineers to determine required model accuracy
  • Iterate on models as new data becomes available from higher fidelity CFD methods, windtunnel, and flight test
  • Develop and improve the software methods behind the modeling tools and workflows 
  • Support verification and validation activities that rely on the model outputs

Required

  • An advanced degree (PhD/MS/MEng) in related discipline and 2+ yrs industry experience. A university degree in related discipline and 5+ yrs industry experience will also be considered.
  • Fundamental and expert-level understanding of statistical learning methods and different surrogate and regression modeling techniques and approaches
  • Expert-level knowledge of aerodynamics of subsonic flight and of propeller 
  • Familiarity and proficiency with Python.
  • Proficiency with professional software development practices.

Desired

  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms
  • Experience with Git/GitHub and CI/CD pipelines 
  • Matlab proficiency

 

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $133,500 - $178,000/yr. The compensation package offered will be determined by location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
