Joby Overview

Located in Northern California, the team at Joby Aviation is driven by our goal of creating an affordable, all-electric air transportation system. Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onwards toward certifying the Joby aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration, scaling our manufacturing, and preparing to launch commercial service in 2025.

  • Interpreting and utilizing engineering drawings and models for the machining and fabrication of composite laminate, honeycomb core structure, and adhesive bonded test specimens using traditional machining equipment (3-axis CNC mill, surface grinder, tile saw, band-saw, low-speed precision saw, and various pneumatic trim tools) to meet dimensional tolerance and finish requirements
  • Act independently to determine the appropriate methods and procedures for completing new assignments; and function as the primary contact for machining/machine operation guidance, within and outside of the team.
  • Assisting in the development and drafting of computer-aided design (CAD) models for test specimens, panel fabrication tooling, and bond fixtures
  • Responsible set-up and routine maintenance of machining equipment

  • Detailed knowledge of and experience with feeds/speeds for a variety of materials (experience with hybrid parts/surfaces is a plus)
  • Strong math skills and a knowledge of engineering documentation, drawings, and models (understanding of and familiarity with GD&T)
  • Knowledge of basic equipment maintenance and machine requirements for smooth/safe operation
  • Ability to read and operate inspection equipment including calipers, micrometers, height-gauges, microscopes, and scales
  • Basic knowledge of composites (including twill and uni-directional prepregs, paste and film adhesives, and honeycomb core)
  • Ability to lift >50 lbs. unassisted and stand at work station for extended periods of time (>4 hours), not including meals and break times

Desired

  • Additional experience with programming for various types of CNC machines is highly preferred
  • Minimum of High School diploma or equivalent (an Associates degree in machining/fabrication or GD&T course experience is highly preferred)
