Overview

Joby Software Program Managers facilitate a focused, realistic, and managed delivery for cross-functional teams aligned with overall SW Program Goals.

Responsibilities

SW Program Managers embedded within the SW Teams:

  • Partner with the specified team(s) to understand their goals, tasks, and deliverables to meet the overall program objectives while avoiding or mitigating remediation efforts due to “technical  debt”.
  • Manage the scrum process for multiple cross-functional software teams, including daily standup, story grooming, retrospectives, and sprint planning to craft the roadmap of work that supports Joby’s objectives within the established release cadence.  
  • Negotiate/influence others to facilitate communication, discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution.
  • Help teams develop longer term goals and translate those goals into Epics and Stories. Facilitate Backlog grooming and use Jira/JAR in the established Joby Software Jira Configuration for day-to-day management of activities, risks, and issues.
  • Use Confluence and other tools to document meetings, decisions, et al in a traceable fashion.
  • Facilitate cross-team and/or cross-Joby projects and/or issue resolution as necessary to communicate risks, issues, plan, and status.  Identify mitigation strategies and impact to staffing or schedule.
  • Work with the suppliers and manage budget, cost, schedule and compliance process.
  • Identify and track risks and issues with ongoing projects.  Schedule and facilitate meetings, document, create tasks, track progress and marshal resources as needed to achieve resolution.
  • Represent the teams in some planning/reporting forums.
  • Train, support, and coach team members in good Agile/Scrum practices.
  • Guide Joby Team Members in DO-178C best practices.

Required

  • Project Management of Enterprise level cross functional Software Teams and Projects (e.g. Systems, Embedded, Life-safety critical software).  Hands on / direct program management of software engineers to manage their schedules and deliverables.
  • Bachelor’s in engineering or related fields and 8+ years of experience with SW development project scheduling and management.
  • Prior experience with the Agile development process and knowledge of Scrum and Kanban methodology.
  • Demonstrable experience in the simultaneous management of multiple engineering projects utilizing some of - facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, organizational skills and attention to details.
  • Hands on experience / fundamental understanding of iterative and incremental development.

Desired

  • Experience within a regulated environment, FAA, DOT, Mil-Spec.
  • Experience with safety critical software development projects in Aviation or Automotive industry
  • Proficiency with JIRA, Jira Advanced Roadmaps, and/or Polarian
  • Proficiency with common workplace software: Word, spreadsheets, Confluence, Slack, etc

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay, bonus, and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $131,700 - $201,900/yr. The compensation package offered will be determined by location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
