Overview

Joby Aviation is seeking a highly organized and passionate engineer to lead the construction and maintenance of Joby’s flight test ground control stations and telemetry rooms. You will be designing, building and documenting Joby’s remote pilot stations, telemetry rooms, and associated flight test infrastructure. The systems you design will help Joby efficiently operate the fleet of flight test vehicles which will collect the data needed to provide feedback to design engineers, and also provide necessary data for certifying Joby’s eVTOL aircraft.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the construction of new ground control stations and telemetry rooms to support Joby’s flight test campaigns across multiple test locations.
  • Maintain and improve Joby’s current ground support equipment.
  • Generate design definition for Joby’s ground control stations and remote pilot systems
  • Lead the site preparation for ground control stations at different temporary test locations.
  • Work with the flight test instrumentation team to integrate communication systems between the flight test vehicles and ground control stations.
  • Build procedures to improve the efficiency of flight test operations relating to configuring the ground control stations between common aircraft.
  • Ensure that the ground control stations, and telemetry rooms comply with the requirements outlined by the flight test team.

Required

  • B.S. +4 yrs in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a relevant discipline
  • Experience with audio and video equipment.
  • Experience with radio and remote-control systems.
  • Experience with mechanical design and manufacturing drawing creation, Computer Aided Design (CAD).

Desired

  • Experience with Dassault Systems CAD Catia, specifically using Generative Shape Design, Part Design and Assembly Design.
  • Hands on machine shop skills using lathe, mill, welder, and other machine shop equipment.
  • Experience designing and fabricating wire harnesses.
  • Experience leading a team of engineers and technicians.
  • Experience with aircraft FAA certification processes.

 

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $113,900 - $185,400/yr. The compensation package offered will be determined by location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
