Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate and experienced aviation safety and security professional to join our UAE team in launching Joby’s first urban air mobility (UAM) air taxi service. This service, launched in cooperation with Dubai's Road and Transport Authority (RTA), will feature Joby’s all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOL) and is expected to be amongst the first eVTOL UAM services in the world. You will report to Joby’s UAE General Manager and will work closely alongside Joby’s US-based Head of Safety and US-based Head of Security.

 

As the Dubai-based Manager of Safety & Security, you will be responsible for implementing the Joby Safety Management System (SMS) and Security Management System (SeMS) for all UAE-based operations (flight, maintenance, training, vertiport). You will serve a critical role in ensuring operational safety and execution of Joby’s vision for UAM, focusing specifically on all aspects of safety, security and regulatory compliance. You will also be required to manage, implement, and monitor the organization’s aviation security program to safeguard passengers, staff, aircraft, and facilities.

 

You must be a problem solver, a strategic thinker, and a driven individual who can represent Joby’s vision while still being capable of driving tactical execution tasks on-site, and with US-based counterparts. 

 

This full-time role is located in Dubai, UAE, and remote work will not be permitted. Over 15% of travel is expected to the United States, or other locations as requested.

• Act as Joby’s Safety and Security Champion in UAE to lead and promote a safety-first culture across all operations while ensuring the integration of aviation safety and security with Flight Test, Commercial Operations, Aircraft Maintenance, Training, Vertiport operations, and relevant associated external agencies
• Assist with the development and maintenance of the UAE Emergency Response Plan, conducting regular drills, and aligning the Safety Management System (SMS) with other operational safety programs
• Oversee safety and security processes, manage safety and security reporting, lead incident investigations, and implement corrective actions
• Enhance and reinforce the safety culture through training and education, regular safety meetings and communications, and the development of an effective compliance monitoring program and security audits to ensure compliance with safety and security procedures
• Develop, implement, and maintain the Aviation Security Program in line with legal, regulatory, and operational requirements
• Oversee security risk assessments and implement mitigation measures for identified threats
• Oversee and manage all aviation security incidents, breaches, or emergencies.
• Ensure company compliance with all safety and security directives
• Responsible for the Safety (SMS) and Security Management System (SeMS) implementation, maintenance, documentation, performance, and effectiveness. Ensure alignment with Joby’s Enterprise SMS Program
• Provide independent advice on safety and security matters and to be ultimately accountable to the accountable manager
• Monitor safety and security concerns in the aviation industry and their perceived impact on Joby’s operations aimed at product and service delivery
• Be the principal communicator with regulators on audits and service provision issues related to the Safety and Security management systems. Coordinate and communicate safety and security issues within Joby as well as with external organizations (including the GCAA, DCAA, and other State authorities as necessary) on issues relating to safety and security; and
• Partner with local vertiport operator(s) to ensure safe and secure operations at any location where Joby aircraft operates within the UAE
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with external safety and security services, regulatory bodies, and law enforcement

• 5 years of aviation safety and security experience
• Meet the requirements to be the appointed Safety Post Holder, SMS position per UAE CAR SMS.SPO.015 and UAE CAR UAM
• Meet the requirements to be the appointed Security Post Holder per UAE CAR UAM
• Have appropriate security management system and safety management system  knowledge and experience
• Data analysis skills
• Working exposure to the FAA, GCAA, EASA, NTSB, or military
• Fluent in English (ICAO level 4 minimum)
• Good organizational skills including project management
• Confident in the delivery of written reports, risk assessments, and briefings to senior management
• Ability to pass AVSEC security clearance
• Ability to travel internationally, especially to the United States

• 10+ years of aviation safety and security experience
• Advanced degree, with Aviation Safety specialty or equivalent experience
• Formal Safety Training (Military, FAA, GCAA, EASA, NTSB, SCSI, Collegiate)
• Law enforcement or military security experience 
• Prior experience as the appointed Post Holder SMS and/or Security position
• Prior experience working with various governmental and aviation transportation authorities in the UAE
• Fluent in Arabic 
• Commercial Pilot
• Emirati National
