Joby Overview

Located in Northern California, the team at Joby Aviation is driven by our goal of creating an affordable, all-electric air transportation system. Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onwards toward certifying the Joby aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.

Overview

Joby Aviation is excited to welcome a passionate graduate student to join our Reliability team as a Reliability Engineering Intern for Summer 2025. In this role, you'll analyze lab test data using reliability prediction models for electrical propulsion, energy systems, and mechanical structures, while building correlations with flight test metrics. You'll collaborate closely with reliability (both design and fleet), test, data analytics, and flight test engineers, gaining hands-on experience from component testing to system/flight test data analytics. If you're eager to apply your skills in a dynamic, mission-driven environment, we'd love to have you on board!

Location: San Carlos, CA with occasional travel to Marina, CA

  • Create subsystem-specific dashboards for parametric degradation and failure rate trends.
  • Assist reliability engineers in risk identification and solution development.
  • Learn and apply reliability prediction models, physics of failure, and reliability toolsets.

Required

  • Pursuing MS or PhD degree in Reliability Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechatronics, Data Science, or an equivalent field.
