Joby Overview

Located in Northern California, the team at Joby Aviation is driven by our goal of creating an affordable, all-electric air transportation system. Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onwards toward certifying the Joby aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.

Working as a Composites M&P Technician you will support the materials qualification effort leading to the development, certification, and production of eVTOL aircraft. The role requires composite fabrication and laboratory experience. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain molds, tooling plates, caul plates, panel bonding fixtures, and hand-tools for composite layup and adhesive bonding.
  • Use calibrated dimensional inspection tools (e.g., calipers, scales, micrometers) for precise measurements.
  • Interpret and adhere to ASTM, SACMA, and MIL-SPEC standards for material characterization and development tests.
  • Operate electromechanical test frames, test fixturing, thermal test chambers, environmental conditioning chambers, and relevant software.

Required

  • Minimum 2+ years of lab experience (preferably in a materials lab or aviation/aerospace setting).
  • High School diploma or equivalent (Associate's degree or trade certification in composites is a plus).
  • Strong math skills and knowledge of engineering documentation, drawings, and models (familiarity with GD&T a plus).
  • Ability to read and operate inspection equipment (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height-gauges, microscopes, scales).
  • Basic knowledge of prepreg composites and material properties (e.g., twill and uni-directional prepregs, paste and film adhesives, honeycomb core).
  • Ability to lift over 50 lbs. unassisted and stand at workstations for extended periods (over 4 hours, excluding meals and breaks).
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and general computer skills (experience with test equipment software is a plus).

Desired

  • Excellent technical aptitude and analytical skills.
  • Experience in a materials qualification setting.
  • Fundamental understanding of composite test standards and common failure modes.
