Overview

Joby Aviation is seeking a Materials & Process Engineer with expertise in material selection, analysis, and process development to join our powertrain & electronics materials and process team. The engineer will support the Joby aircraft powertrain scale up in collaboration with a strong team of manufacturing and design engineers. The person will develop and qualify application and fabrication parameters, develop control plans, and drive continuous improvement. This individual must be highly organized and self-driven while possessing a deep understanding of manufacturability and quality control. This position is exciting and rewarding, as the engineer will promptly see their ideas grow from concept to creation due to the fast pace of Joby Aviation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize process parameters and assist in design revisions and continuous improvement to improve product quality and yield
  • Design and execute material qualification campaigns
  • Author process specifications for applications of thermoplastics and thermosets such as adhesives, sealants, paints, engineering plastics, and protective films
  • Provide documentation of process development, quality control plans, and standardized practices supporting production
  • Support design engineers, quality engineers, and supply managers in analysis of components and assemblies, driving improvements at suppliers and supporting continuous design improvements

Required

  • B.S. in Materials Engineering or relevant degree
  • 8+ years of relevant experience
  • Strong listening and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent problem solving and teamwork skills while working with cross functional teams
  • Experience prototyping or manufacturing in a professional environment
  • Proficient in authoring process documentation
  • Expertise in thermosets and/or thermoplastics

Desired

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Materials Engineering
  • Experience in aviation or aerospace industry
  • Experience with hardware manufacturing environments and systems
  • Experience working in a design engineering organization

 

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $106,400 - $181,000/yr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
