Joby Overview

Located in Northern California, the team at Joby Aviation is driven by our goal of creating an affordable, all-electric air transportation system. Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onwards toward certifying the Joby aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.

Overview

Joby Aviation is seeking a driven and experienced Manufacturing Planner to join our Manufacturing and Supply Chain organization. This role will be responsible for managing the production schedule for specific manufacturing areas, working cross-functionally to ensure execution while also supporting the evolution of our planning function as we transition from low-rate builds to scalable production.

The Manufacturing Planner will play a key role in both short-term execution and long-term stability. This includes tracking schedule performance, identifying sources of variability, and partnering with cross-functional teams to drive improvements in schedule attainment and execution confidence. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in high-mix manufacturing environments, is comfortable operating in ambiguity, and is motivated to help shape the tools, processes, and disciplines that will enable a more structured, proactive scheduling approach.

Responsibilities

  • Own the shop floor production schedule for assigned areas, ensuring alignment between demand, material availability, and manufacturing readiness
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality to ensure work orders are properly prioritized, structured, and released
  • Lead daily schedule reviews and status updates and serve as the point of contact for planning-related execution issues
  • Manage short-term planning needs while identifying and addressing root causes of recurring disruptions
  • Create and maintain reporting that measures schedule attainment, highlights key drivers of variability, and informs planning decisions
  • Communicate issues impacting schedule stability, escalate risks, and help define requirements for successful scheduling
  • Drive discussions that shift execution from reactive recovery to proactive planning, ensuring work is planned earlier and buffers are established where needed
  • Maintain schedule integrity in ERP systems including routings, BOMs, order dates, and build quantities
  • Contribute to capacity planning and schedule optimization efforts to support build velocity and program goals
  • Support the rollout of scalable planning processes, tools, and data improvements

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Operations, or related field or 8yrs equivalent professional  experience
  • 5+ years of experience in production planning, scheduling, or manufacturing operations in a complex hardware environment
  • Proficiency with ERP systems such as Dynamics 365 with the ability to interpret and manage routing, BOM, and order data
  • Experience in high-mix, low-volume production environments with evolving processes and limited system structure
  • Familiarity with PLM tools such as Enovia, Catia, or Delmia and an understanding of configuration management principles
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to lead discussions and influence across teams
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in fast-paced environments while helping drive process improvement and planning maturity
  • Experience building or using reporting tools to monitor planning execution and drive continuous improvement

Desired

    • Experience supporting planning transformations or scaling manufacturing from low-rate to higher-volume production
    • APICS CPIM or CSCP certification
    • Lean Six Sigma or continuous improvement experience
