Joby Overview

At Joby Aviation, we are driven by our goal of creating an affordable, all-electric, global air transportation system. Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, and then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onward toward certifying our aircraft and scaling our global operations.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cable and harness manufacturing, component traceability, and electromechanical inspection, with the ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications. This position requires close collaboration with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Supplier Quality teams in a fast-paced production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the quality authority for wire harness assembly processes, ensuring compliance with IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3 workmanship standards.
  • Develop and maintain in-process and final inspection plans for wire harness assemblies, including verification of:
    • Crimp quality and termination integrity
    • Routing and lacing
    • Shielding and ground terminations
    • Heat shrink application, labeling, and connector assembly
  • Participate in First Article Inspections (FAIs) in accordance with AS9102 and support the development of Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) for critical wiring processes.
  • Develop and manage quality data and metrics using data visualization tools to drive product
and process improvements and reduce the cost of poor quality.
  • Support the development, verification, and manufacture of products using Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), continuous improvement methodologies, and Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques.
  • Analyze product and process failures to ensure effective root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action activities for wire harness nonconformances using structured problem-solving tools such as 5-Why, Ishikawa diagrams, and 8D
    methodologies.
  • Represent the Quality function on the Material Review Board (MRB) and during Engineering Change activities.

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in quality engineering or a manufacturing engineering role.
  • Working knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620, AS9102, and Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, connector pinouts, and aerospace design documentation.
  • Familiarity with MIL-spec components, circular connectors, shield terminations, and standard
    electrical test protocols.
  • Proficient in root cause analysis methodologies and quality reporting systems.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to work independently and manage multiple
    priorities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with QMS, ERP, and PLM
    systems is preferred.

Desired

  • Three or more years of experience in quality engineering, manufacturing, or inspection of aerospace wire harnesses or cable assemblies.
  • Hands-on experience with automated wire processing equipment, such as crimping presses and wire stripping machines.
  • Proficiency in conducting and interpreting electrical acceptance tests, including continuity, insulation resistance, and high-potential (hi-pot) testing.
  • Previous experience working in AS9100-certified or FAA-regulated production environments.
  • Knowledge of FAA regulatory requirements
