Overview

Joby Aviation is seeking an enthusiastic Maintenance Engineer to join our growing Aftermarket Support Engineering Team with supporting the development of the S4 maintenance program and related strategic initiatives. The position will be in our Santa Cruz or Marina CA site. The role will actively work cross functionally with teams in Joby aviation including engineering, manufacturing, and airline operations to successfully deploy protocols related to maintenance engineering.  

The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Joby Maintenance Program Development for Assigned Systems including aspects of Electric Distribution and Avionics. 
  • Cross-functional maintenance program initiatives. 
  • Supporting maintenance planning and other projects.

Responsibilities

It is expected the person in this role will play a crucial role in the development of the Joby Maintenance Program.  

  • Act as the focal for Avionics and Electric Battery Systems for the Maintenance Engineering Team. 
  • Execute processes to support initial type certification and recurring revisions to the maintenance program. 
  • Provide guidance to the design organization to ensure the design meets the needs of the maintenance team including feeding back field information into the design. 
  • Coordinate for assigned chapters the different maintenance task types, including airworthiness limitations and recommended maintenance. 
  • Conduct engineering analysis (MSG-3) to support maintenance program deliverables and determine appropriate maintenance tasks and intervals.
  • Carry out on-aircraft or near aircraft task validation activities.

Required

The following skills and attributes are required for this position:

  • Bachelor’s of engineering or Aircraft Maintenance Professional Certificate. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience in either the aerospace sector (e.g., aircraft OEM, military, or airline) or the electric vehicle industry, with a focus on energy storage or powertrain systems.
  • Able to work on high volume process driven analysis with a high attention to detail. 
  • Experience balancing short- and long-term initiatives.
  • Creative thinker able to use logical reasoning to develop solutions to novel engineering.  
  • Proactive mindset, comfortable in a dynamic and evolving environment.

Desired

The following skills and attributes are highly desired for this position.

  • Understanding of software-hardware maintenance interfaces.
  • Experience implementing a maintenance program on aircraft or other large equipment.
  • Understanding of aircraft avionics systems.

Additional Information

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is  $87,700 - $144,000. The compensation package offered will be determined by location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
