Joby Overview

Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onward toward certifying the Joby aircraft, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.

Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engineering Technician to support the development of our flight-critical components. This role is hands-on and focused on the assembly and testing of advanced electromechanical systems, including electric motors, battery systems, and environmental controls.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This is an opportunity to directly contribute to building the next generation of VTOL aircraft!

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineering teams on the design, build, and testing of complex electromechanical systems
  • Assemble and integrate hardware for test stands and aircraft components while maintaining detailed documentation
  • Support the development of new assembly methods, tools, and processes for rapidly evolving designs
  • Ensure quality, safety, and traceability throughout all build processes
  • Provide feedback to design engineers on manufacturability and assembly improvements
  • Build from engineering drawings and CAD models for both new and updated designs
  • Partner with manufacturing and production teams to transition designs into production, including training and process documentation

Required

  • 5+ years of industry or directly relevant experience
  • Background in mechanical assembly and systems integration
  • Hands-on experience with low-voltage electrical systems and electric motor assembly/testing
  • Proven ability to work in a high-paced, high-quality environment
  • Strong work ethic, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail
  • Team-oriented mindset with excellent communication skills
  • Previous experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) or as an engineering technician
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Ability to lift assemblies up to 50 lbs

Desired

  • Experience with high-voltage systems or complex electromechanical systems
  • Skilled in writing and following work instructions
  • Familiarity with machining, welding, and general mechanical craftsmanship
  • Experience with instrumentation setup and data collection
  • Working knowledge of CAD and PLM/PDM systems.
  • IPC J-Standard certification
  • Understanding of electric motor functions and components
  • Proficiency with Grafana for system monitoring and Jira for project tracking
