Overview

Joby Aviation is seeking a highly capable Technical Safety Analyst to join our Flight Safety Team and support continuous improvements in the safety of our development and production aircraft. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of developmental safety processes, data analytics, and Safety Management Systems (SMS). In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Flight Test and Engineering teams to identify and address safety aspects of aircraft issues during testing in a fast-paced development environment. You will investigate incidents, determine appropriate technical corrective actions, and communicate findings to relevant engineering teams. This position is based in Santa Cruz, CA or Marina, CA, California (Monterey/Santa Cruz region) and will require occasional travel to offsite test locations.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for bringing a technical safety perspective to help resolve issues discovered during developmental testing.
  • Investigate incidents, help determine technical corrective actions, and share findings with relevant teams.
  • Works to continuously improve the aircraft safety through application of SMS. 
  • Apply data analytics skills to identify emerging risks and anticipate future issues as part of Safety Risk Management (SRM) and support collection of safety data and statistics to support safety assurance (SA). 
  • Coordinate Root Cause and Corrective Action investigations working with Flight Test, Engineering, and other departments to understand and drive improvements back to aircraft requirements and design.
  • Prepare presentations, analyses, and reports for internal and external reviews and safety boards and participate in other safety committees as required.
  • Supports the broader safety team in company safety programs.

Required

  • Minimum of 3 years of system safety experience in an aircraft development environment.
  • Bachelor's degree with aviation or aviation safety specialty or equivalent experience. 
  • Comprehensive data analysis and statistical skills. 
  • Knowledgeable in investigative techniques and tools 
  • Previous experience with Safety Management Systems (SMS), Safety Risk Management (SRM), and Safety Assurance (SA).

Desired

  • Formal Safety Training (Military, FAA, NTSB, SCSI, Collegiate). 
  • Advanced Degree.
  • Experience with developmental aircraft, certification, and/or project management.
  • FAA or Military pilot or maintenance certifications.  
  • Experience with human factors in aviation.

Additional Information

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $81,500 - $141,700/year. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
