Overview

Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate Manufacturing Engineer Intern to join our Powertrain & Electronics Manufacturing Engineering Team in San Carlos, CA. The Manufacturing Engineer intern will lead manufacturing equipment design and process development for battery module production, working closely with a cross functional team, made of Quality, Production, Design, Supply Chain, etc. This individual must be highly organized, self-driven, and willing to take on projects independently while under mentorship of more experienced team members. This position is exciting and rewarding, as the Manufacturing Engineer Intern will promptly see their ideas influence many key areas due to the fast pace of Joby Aviation.

Responsibilities

  • Design and create drawings for tools, jigs, and fixtures.
  • Improve existing production line, processes and procedures.
  • Author Manufacturing Execution System procedures for Production team to use.

Required

  • Pursuing undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering; previous co-op, internship, or related work experience required
  • Heading into junior or senior year of undergraduate degree or above
  • Available Summer 2026
  • Excellent problem solving, communication, and teamwork skills while working with cross functional teams
  • Strong analytical and practical understanding of mechanical design
  • Ability to take a proactive hands-on approach to problem identification, prototyping, iterative design, validation testing, and troubleshooting

Relocation Assistance: This position does not offer relocation assistance. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

 

The pay range for undergraduate interns, which includes freshman to senior level students, is $22-$31/hr. The pay range for graduate interns with a Bachelor, Master, and/or Ph.D. degree is $5,550-$7,800/month. Individual pay is determined by internship role, department, experience, job-related skills, and level of education.
