Overview

Joby Aviation is seeking a highly organized, self motivated, detail-oriented Equipment Engineer to design, develop, and maintain specialized fixtures, aids, equipment and machinery for the Composite Rapid Development Department. This role plays a critical part in enabling rapid prototyping, testing, and development activities. The ideal candidate has a strong technical expertise in mechanical and electrical design, hands-on troubleshooting abilities, strong problem-solving and analytical thinking, excellent verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced R&D environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and fabricate custom equipment, tooling, fixtures, and aids to support prototype builds and light production that meet engineering tolerances while focusing on technician usability and ergonomics
  • Create, review, and modify mechanical and electrical drawings for new equipment, assembly fixturing, tools, and aids tailored around advanced composite fabrication and assembly
  • Ensure designs comply with safety, quality, and Industrial standards 
  • Troubleshooting equipment failures, diagnose, repair, and resolve 
  • Support remote troubleshooting with external vendors for repairs and spare parts

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 5 plus years of experience in equipment design, troubleshooting, maintenance in a manufacturing or industrial environment 
  • Highly proficient in 3D CAD software 
  • Knowledge of electro-mechanical systems 
  • Ability to assist in fabrication/assembly of designed equipment, fixtures, aids 

Desired

  • Experience with GD&T
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles 
  • Data analysis tools familiarity 
  • Indepth composite fabrication knowledge; materials, consumables, techniques

Additional Information

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $127,400 - $165,900/yr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
