Overview

Joby Aviation is seeking a People Team Specialist to join our Santa Cruz team. This role supports key functions within the Employee Relations and Compliance team, with an emphasis on delivering a welcoming new hire onboarding/orientation experience and supporting key compliance functions for the People team. As a People Team Specialist, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring employees feel supported from their first interaction with Joby through their entire employee lifecycle. You’ll work closely with cross-functional People teams while managing sensitive information with accuracy, discretion, and care. As well as manage various aspects of our People compliance program.

Responsibilities

  • Create a positive and welcoming experience for all new hires by coordinating and leading new hire orientation sessions
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for incoming employees, responding to questions and requests for information prior to their start date
  • Ensure all new hire documentation and information is accurate, complete, and submitted on time
  • Coordinate and process pre-employment requirements, including background checks and drug & alcohol testing
  • Generate and maintain reports from various HR systems for the Employee Relations and Compliance team and other People teams as needed
  • Support internal compliance audits, including I-9 audits
  • Deliver timely, thoughtful, and high-quality support to employees and internal stakeholders
  • Create, maintain, and organize employee files in accordance with compliance requirements
  • Oversee compliance training via the learning management system
  • Stay apprised of current and changing state and federal Regulations and communicate upcoming changes to the People Team
  • Work within the Employee Relations and Compliance Team on necessary People compliance tasks
  • Work primarily within digital systems and tools, including Trailiant LMS, Google Workspace, Microsoft Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and DocuSign
  • Collaborate closely with the Employee Relations team and provide additional support as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required

  • 2+ years of experience in People Operations, HR Compliance, or a related field
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships
  • Demonstrated work ethic with a proactive, service-oriented mindset
  • Excellent judgment and discretion when handling sensitive employee information
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with Legal, Safety, Facilities, and Payroll teams
  • Proficiency with DocuSign, HRIS systems, and Microsoft Office or Google Workspace
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple time-sensitive workstreams
  • Ability to work onsite at least 4 days per week, including Mondays

Desired

  • Experience working with HR systems, tools, or processes
  • Background in human resources, compliance, or a related field
  • Experience working in a startup environment
  • Experience building dashboards with Claude Code, Google Scripts, or via other programs
  • Experience with workers' compensation audits
  • Knowledge of California, New York and or Ohio-specific employment compliance requirements
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations (Part 135 or similar) 
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple time-sensitive workstreams
  • Excellent judgment and discretion when handling sensitive employee information
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with Legal, Safety, Facilities, and Payroll teams
  • Proficiency with DocuSign, HRIS systems, and Microsoft Office or Google Workspace

Additional Information

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $70,304 - $114,400/yr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
