Company Overview

Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. At Joby, we've been working to make that dream a reality since 2009 and we're now in the final stages of certifying our aircraft with the FAA. With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.

Overview

We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, and politically savvy Senior Federal Affairs Advisor to support and grow Joby Aviation’s Washington, D.C. government affairs presence. This individual will report to and work alongside the Head of Federal Affairs to execute day-to-day engagement with Congress, federal agencies, and key advocacy coalitions, advancing Joby’s interests in advanced air mobility, defense, transportation, and emerging technology policy.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Head of Federal Affairs in executing federal government engagement strategy across legislative and executive branches, with emphasis on defense, aerospace, transportation, energy, and innovation portfolios
  • Help build and maintain relationships with congressional staff, agency contacts, DoD personnel, trade association representatives, and advocacy coalition partners
  • Monitor, research, and summarize relevant legislation, regulatory developments, appropriations, and agency activity affecting advanced air mobility (AAM) and eVTOL markets
  • Draft policy briefings, one-pagers, fact sheets, talking points, and internal memos that clearly communicate Joby’s policy positions and technology story to government and executive audiences
  • Support scheduling, preparation, and follow-through for Hill meetings, agency briefings, coalition events, and industry conferences.
  • Represent Joby at congressional hearings, trade association working groups, and industry coalition meetings as needed
  • Advance and protect the company’s interests in federal policy discussions, funding programs, defense procurement processes, and emerging regulatory frameworks
  • Partner with cross-functional teams—especially engineering, legal, business development, and executive leadership—to gather technical inputs and translate them into clear, accessible policy narratives
  • Assist with lobbying disclosures, registration maintenance, and ensure all activities comply with federal lobbying laws and ethical standards
  • Support policy budget tracking and assist with reporting on government affairs activities
  • Serve as liaison to Safety teams

Required

  • 8+ years of experience in federal government affairs, legislative affairs, or public policy
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Working knowledge of U.S. federal government structures, the legislative process, appropriations cycles, and regulatory workflows
  • Strong research and writing skills; ability to synthesize complex policy information into clear, concise materials for senior executives and government officials
  • Demonstrated interest in or exposure to defense, aerospace, transportation, or emerging technology policy
  • Highly organized, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; comfortable engaging congressional staff, agency contacts, and internal leadership
  • Strong ethics, discretion, and ability to navigate sensitive government interactions with professionalism
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time

Desired

  • Security clearance (current or prior)
  • Hill staff, Executive branch, corporate government relations, or agency experience
  • Master’s degree in public policy, political science, international affairs, or a related field is a plus
  • Strong research and writing skills with a genuine interest in the intersection of aviation, defense, and emerging technology
  • Proactive, organized, and eager to build expertise across a generalist policy portfolio at one of the most exciting companies in aerospace
